When I was enrolled in my first undergraduate degree program, I didn't know if I would be successful. I am the first in my family to attend college. But, then, I knew I had a great work ethic and that because of it I would do well in school. I hope that the following suggestions help you to develop a sense of what a good work ethic looks like for you.
For me, my goal in college and now is to be uber-successful and revel in that success. Well, fast-forward 4 years later: I graduated with cum laude distinction and over 26 awards and scholarships that covered half of my tuition, was selected by my university to attend a gala for President Obama during his first election, and participated in Brain Cancer Research at my University's Hospital/Health Science Center. These were just a few of my accomplishments in under 4 years.
My Vision For a Strong Work Ethic Begins With...
My work ethic is defined as "I will work hard now, so I can party later." If I had to do it over again, I would focus on doing therapy for me and not care what anyone thinks. I would do one thing fun each day for me. I would develop my hobbies a bit more while continuing to go to the gym every other day. My focus would be "self-care first, then fit in x amount of time to complete work each day."
I would set a small goals like 15 minutes per day for work. I would be proud of what I accomplished and talk to my inner self in a validating way no matter what. Overall, I had a great time in college because it was my journey and I defined it. And I met a love interest, who I will never forget.
