The Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center, September 11th Celebration of Life

Since the 19th century, the Met has been hosting talents from around the world.  Interestingly, the Met's location today is not the same as it was in the 1960s.  The original site on 66th street in Manhattan was too small until they partnered with Lincoln Center.

What You Need To Know:

  • Families affected by 9/11 receive free tickets to see the show on 9/11.  Find out if you're eligible.
  • If you cannot make the show in person, the Met offers free audio broadcasting of all of its shows for free to anyone.  I believe the station is called The Metropolitan Opera Radio on Sirius XM Satellite Radio.
  • The Met also offers discounted tickets to full-time students and adults under 40 on Fridays.

Recommended Shows:

  • Verdi's Requiem

Pros

-Uplifting music.

-Beautiful site.

-Can be a date night activity.

-The Met offers free audio broadcasting of all of its shows for free if you cannot make in person shows.

This weeknight trip can be coupled with a dinner activity in NYC.  No flight fees or hotels are needed. Accessible by subway from NYC.
