When all you have is chaos or pent-up energy within that you're not sure how to deal with, yoga can be a great outlet.   In addition to being a great tool for coping with trauma, there are some additional benefits.  Here are the benefits:

Kundalini Yoga

Pros

-Yoga calms the chaos within and brings centeredness.

-Makes you present.

-Reduces stress.

-Reduces tension stored in the body from previous traumas. A great tool to heal from trauma. Recommended by Dr. Van Der Kolk in his book: https://www.besselvanderkolk.com/resources/the-body-keeps-the-score

-Develops a strong mind-body connection and self-awareness.

-Makes you joyous.

-Creates a deeper sense of connection and community with others in your group class.

-Heightened focus.

-Increased clarity.

-Gives inner strength.

-Gives you a place to recycle pent-up energy.  Turns it into new energy that can be used for other activities.

Cons

-Many different styles of yoga.  May have to try different styles till you find one that works for you

-Can be expensive.

Recommendations:

Kundalini Yoga is a great practice to start because it focuses on breathwork more so than on difficult yoga moves.  Any age can do it and you still get the same benefits above.  Also Kundalini Yoga East offers affordable classes and training programs to become certified in this style of practice.

I got the best results when using kundalini yoga with trauma therapy.  You may want to consider this option with your medical team.
