Frequently Asked Questions

You’ve asked, and I’ve answered!

Why did you choose these five topics to talk about? They are so diverse.

The reasons for choosing these five topics culminated over time.  Initially, I chose the five topics: “Recipes & Tips To Lose Weight,” “Food Reviews,” “Therapies/Self Care,” “Study Tips,” and “Affordable Travel Destinations in NY” because they represent my hobbies.  My hobbies inspire my joy of curiosity, carrying my desire to be a better person and to sometimes, allow me to kick back with emotional freedom.

Is there a release schedule?

Once a week.

Please Note\FYI: Due to the nature of the research for that particular topic, some require more time to post. Some require reading novels before simplifying, compacting, and disseminating the information in an article or video format.  Others require free weekends to travel before writing about the experience.

If there is a change in schedule, I will notify you through email if you wish to keep on the up and up. Please subscribe to stay tuned!

How do I easily transition to quicker, healthier eating?

What worked well for me was determining what worked in my family and proportions. This is the key to weight loss.  I’ve always been proactive: eating healthy and working out 3-4 times a week.  Having fewer calories and tasty meals equates to consistency, which equates to weight loss. As a medical provider, and from one layman to another, note that medications can cause weight gain as well.  If this is your situation, talk to your medical team and other relevant medical supports you trust about your concerns and ways to address these needs.

My hope is that through reading my blog you’ll start to apply little nougats I picked up from my nutritionist, trainers, and things that have been successful for me in losing weight.

How do I easily transition to exploring and trying a variety of foods I’ve never tried before?  How did you become so bold?

Trying new and even bizarre foods is a habit.  So what we’re really talking about here is how to build a new habit. What worked for me is having an open mind.  I tell myself eating new foods could be a good experience or at least a learning one.  Growing up in NY to immigrant parents, I have great chefs in my family.  Thus, as food was tasty at home and outside of the home, there was always an incentive to try new foods.   I have traveled abroad two to three times a year.  With people I trust, we tried local foods from the different islands, countries, and continents we toured.  Our golden rule was to limit ourselves to only local foods and avoid familiar foods abroad.  This taught me to appreciate good foods in other cultures, similarities between cultures, and to respect other cultures.  This may seem easy for me, but every expert was once a beginner.  Remember that!

Only through baby steps and gradually introducing new foods did my partner open up to other great, different foods.

My “Food Review” section has recommendations of foods to eat and to avoid in restaurants throughout the Tri-State area to make it easier to explore new foods.  You might find something that suits your current tastes.  This can make it easier to try something new too!  Please tell me about your experiences to things you've done to be more open-minded in the comments section of my blog!

How do I make a comfortable transition to a therapy modality I’ve never tried before?

There are multiple ways you can do this.  You can: reframe your thoughts, make a pro and cons list, reality test it, et cetera.  What worked for me is making a pros and cons list, doing my own research, and trusting health care practitioners.  Limiting my choices of therapies to two therapies made it easier for me to stick to my plan.  I participated in trauma therapy and yoga therapy.  Before making any medical decisions, I consulted my medical team first.  And I would advise you do the same. My blog does not replace medical advice and my advice it to seek the care of a medical team before making any decisions first.

Once I selected a path to pursue, yoga therapy and trauma therapy, I began working towards the completion of a yoga teacher certification program.  Additionally, good support from my elite medical team, who were not on board initially, came in time.  Today, I’ve graduated from the yoga teacher certification program and utilize yoga to reach mindfulness every day.  I plan to teach yoga once CV19 conditions improve to enhance the lives of those from all walks of life.

My “Therapies/Self Care”  section will talk about the pros and cons of different therapies, and my recommendations.  I would love to assist with restoring others' full functioning so they reach their full potential and live well.   My hope is that you seek ways to improve your life, make informed decisions, and become a proactive partner in your self-care.  Most importantly, I hope you get the care you need.  I hope you are open to new experiences that can assist you in reaching your fullest potential and living interdependently. There are millions of people who have mental health issues.  So I hope you feel that you are good company and become hopeful if you are not. 🙂

How do I easily transition to being a more focused student?

I want to be best prepared for graduate school.  I also thought I could help others in similar situations.   So, I created this blog.  Some of the ways I became more focused as a student is positive self-talk, self-discipline, knowing and applying techniques that augmented my natural learning style, self-care, and being highly organized.  I’ve noticed one person I admired, my late brother, succeed in his endeavors by building these aforementioned skills.  He was very sharp.  Via a medical research program, he discovered the top two causes of death in an indigenous region in Costa Rica.  They were pulmonary diseases.  At the age of 19, UNICEF published his work.  Thus, I will organize all the skills that currently work for me and research new ones.  I will put them all in one place on my blog-- the "Study Tip" section of my blog.

In the “Study Tip” section, I will spotlight strategies from a variety of sources so that you can access them anytime you need them.  I will list the pros for each strategy.  This is what separates my blog from other blogs, which rarely concentrate on developing the skills to be a better student.  My hope is that you’ll apply some of these strategies and tools while you’re in school.  Overall, these strategies and skills have made me a better person and better at many aspects of my life.  I could see it doing the same for you.

How do I easily transition to exploring and enjoying traveling to different destinations in NYC?

Here, we’re also talking about building a new habit.  Some of the things I did to get started on traveling to new destinations are going with good social support to feel safe, starting small, and remembering the pros of traveling.  I love learning, trying new foods, and socializing, and traveling allows me to do all three.  Look for the positives in your situation when you travel abroad or explore in your own backyard!

I started this blog to help many people who live in NYC unearth what’s so amazing about living in NY. We live in NY but are so busy that we forget to appreciate it.  There are things that are unheard of, beautiful, and affordable in NYC.  They are local gems and we'll explore them in the"Travel Destination" section of my blog.  Check out the “Travel Destination” section of my blog to learn about the hidden gems in NYC.

Why are there two FAQ sections on this blog? That’s so weird!

I know I initially wondered the same thing! I collaborated with a professional developer to design my site that incorporated features reminiscent of blogs I admire.  This meant my blog had two FAQ locations, but we can think of it as one FAQ section.   One FAQ site is shorter than the other. And we will also have more opportunities to get to know one another! Yay! 🙂

How do you define success?

I define success as securing and maintaining abundant health, positive growth, self-love, healthy love from a partner, good social support, and a reasonable salary.

Why is the above a question for your blog? Seems amorphous.

It is amorphous.  It can conform to the blog, but it doesn’t have to.  I picked a question out of a stack of cards from a Table Topics conversation game to answer.  I thought I would use the extra space on my blog as an opportunity for you to get to know me better. Hehe. :D. Hope you like it!
