So last weekend, I had the privilege of free time and eating. I’m a nursing student and that’s hard to come by. With friends, we uber ordered Smashburger and it was divine. I indulged in a double cheeseburger without the bun and large fries. Yes, I said it…without the bun! But that’s beside the point!!! During and after eating, I immediately thought, “why hadn’t I come across this burger place before?”
I have researched and been to high-end and low-end burger places and hadn’t ever thought of visiting Smashburger. (This is why I ask for funding to continue reporting and blogging about the restaurants on my blog. I try places you are curious about and report back here on my site! It’s expensive as a student to do what I love and if you love it too, your support would be greatly appreciated). I digress. I’ve tried burgers at PJ Clarkes, a place known for its burgers. It’s a Michelin-star restaurant overlooking the Manhattan skyline in NYC in Battery Park. Despite all its suspense, the burgers at Smashburger were the best I have ever had, from backyard barbeques to holes in the walls to any high-end restaurants.
I cannot say enough positive things about Smashburger. The burgers and fries are well-cooked and seasoned. They are an umami bomb waiting to burst in your mouth. I’ve tried the rosemary and sea salt smash fries and they are to die for! I never had been offered fries like this at any burger joint I have been to. And it was a refreshing and delightful surprise. I pontificated for the second time why I hadn’t done this before. Why hadn’t I put rosemary on any home fries I make? I put rosemary on baked baby red potatoes with salt, but never fast food fries?? It was so good there was only silence while I ate around my friends…I don’t think I even remember breathing. I think I only inhaled (my food that is). It was a mind-blowing eating experience. The burger I customized to order with add-ons included a double cheeseburger with green chiles and mushrooms. I have good taste, but I wasn’t expecting a fast food joint to deliver on this level. It was soooo delightful and worth the one-hour wait and money.
Note to self: Smashburger can get expensive with add-ons, specialty milkshakes, and more people on your bill. For example; for a party of 4 eating at home by the grace of Uber, it cost about $100.
